How I Reclaimed My Health

One Ride, One Step at a Time

In my mid-50s, sugar cravings and junk food had caught up with me, my weight was climbing, my energy was low, and even one lap at the Y felt like too much. But I was determined to get moving. When I heard about a local 100-mile charity bike ride, something clicked. I hadn’t cycled in years, but I signed up anyway combining service, purpose, and a goal to get back in shape. That one ride turned into a sprint triathlon, 5 Ks, 10 Ks, a duathlon, and even a half marathon. More than the races, movement gave me strength physically, emotionally, and mentally. I felt alive again.
